Overview
Fountain Fresh Delivery is part of Fountain Fresh, a family-owned and operated, fresh produce business based in Wisbech, Norfolk. In addition to specialising in the production, processing and wholesale of UK crop potatoes, onions and brassicas, Fountain Fresh directly import fresh produce from around the world, supplying to UK retail, wholesale and food service sectors as well as chilled produce logistics.
The challenge
Along with many other businesses, Fountain Fresh’s operations were severely disrupted by the first UK national lockdown in March 2020. With routes to market restricted, normal operations were scaled down, and staff were put on reduced hours or furloughed.Almost immediately, the company’s Facebook page became inundated with messages from the public enquiring about the possibility of home deliveries. Responding to increasing customer demand, Fountain Fresh set up Fountain Fresh Delivery. However, while the company had the human resources, vehicles and logistical expertise to take fruit, vegetables and other essentials direct to the doors of customers, they needed to have an online shop that could manage and process orders. With time of the essence, Fountain Foods posted a message on Facebook asking for assistance in this area.

Approach
We spotted Fountain Fresh’s call for help on Facebook and knew right away that the project had our name on it. In light of the circumstances, we offered our web design and build skills free of charge, although our client insisted on compromising and paying cost-price for our services.Recognising that social media would have a crucial role to play in raising awareness of the service and in providing a communication channel for customers, we partnered with social media marketing expert Stella Gooch. Our priority was to create a functioning website as quickly as possible, enabling customers to place orders online. To this end, work was ongoing, with design being finessed, functionality enhanced, and bespoke areas added as we went along. Developed in WordPress, the website’s main feature is an online shop where customers can view, order and pay for a wide range of products including fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and alcohol.
What was delivered
The design reflects the branding of parent company Fountain Fresh and includes recipes, frequently asked questions and a blog area. While we focused on developing the website, Stella worked alongside us, managing all aspects of social media. Stella provided full online customer support, managing the Fountain Fresh Delivery Facebook page, putting out daily posts promoting the service and responding to customer queries – adding any questions likely to be repeated to the FAQ area on the website. She engaged with customers via an email newsletter and online competitions, and took responsibility for drafting a range of website content, including the blog and recipe areas.
